Lissette was truly compassionate and gentle in the way she took care of my wife and family during what would end up being the worst week of my life. My wife came to ORMC with breathing problems due to complications from cancer. That afternoon she had fluid removed from around her heart and was admitted. Although my thoughts and praise go out to the nursing staff that attended to my wife, it is Lissette who could not have been a better angel sent to her bedside. Lissette was my wife's overnight nurse, who with great compassion and care, took care of my wife as if she was one of her family members. I would stay with my wife all night hoping and praying that she would get better and Lissette did all she could to offer me comfort. She even put a blanket on me in the middle of the night as my wife would. On Tuesday night my wife could not get comfortable and Lissette was in contact with the on-call doctor to get her the pain management she needed. When she finally did, my wife was able to rest. I would go out at 430 am to get coffee knowing that the hospital doors opened at 5 am. Lissette sat there with my wife the whole time making sure she was comfortable and resting. Although I told Lissette she did not have to do this she said it was no problem and I could tell that she was saying it from her heart. My wife was scheduled to be moved to the 2nd floor but I fought for her to stay because I knew Lissette would be back again. Again, Lisette took such great care of my wife and me, even making me laugh which was well needed. She always explained everything she was doing to my wife and how it was going to help her. My wife passed away at age 41. After a year battling with cancer. I am so proud to have a nurse like Lissette in her corner for her final days. Lisette is a true gem in a sea of people that sometimes just want to get in and get out. Never did she hesitate once to sit with me and my wife a couple minutes extra to comfort us. Lisette deserves the recognition. It is a nurse of her compassion that makes the terrible times in life just a little softer. With love, thanks and praise, Lisette's kindness could never be repaid in this lifetime.
