When Lissette found out that a patient had lost his dentures and phone, she displayed the utmost in caring and compassion in listening to his concerns, calming him down, assuring him that we would take care of helping him. He was asked to provide receipts on the cost of the items, but he had no phone to call his dentist or to get proof that he paid for his phone. He also didn't know anyone's number because it was all in his phone. Lissette called several Metro PCS stores to find the one where he purchased the phone to arrange to get the receipt for him. She searched and found his dentist and called and made him an appointment. She sat with him while he waited for discharge. She got his medications filled at the BHIP retail pharmacy. She even helped him set up his new phone. The following day she got a call from him to help him reschedule his appointment which he did go to, and she arranged to get the bill from the dentist's office and turn it into administration so that he could be reimbursed for his dentures.
While others viewed him as a bother and a threat, Lissette learned about him as a person and identified that could have been any of us, or our family members and treated him as such. I think Lissette may have a new friend. A comment was made that Lissette hadn't lost her "pineapple ways", but the reality is that what Lissette gained is the true meaning of delivering "The Imperial Treatment". She is a true DAISY Nurse and an example of what we should all strive to accomplish in the treatment of any person who walks through our doors.
