To be a good nurse you need patience, intuition, and empathy. To be a great nurse, you must possess these qualities along with passion and a caring heart even when the patients we provide care for show little gratitude in return. Litisha Ramus is without a doubt a great nurse. She carries herself in the utmost professional manner while ensuring each of her patients in the correctional setting are well taken care of.
I've recently had the privilege of witnessing Latisha's daily work ethic first hand while covering at the Racine County Jail. After a full day of clinic, Litisha even makes an extra effort to write a letter to each of her patients to further educate them on their treatment plan and any changes to their medications along with the reason behind the changes. On two different occasions, I witnessed Litisha go above and beyond for her patients. The first wasfora patient who was positive for syphilis. Latisha took it upon herself to call the public health department and get the patient treatment while incarcerated. By doing so she ensured the patient would continue to get outside treatment even after being released.
On another occasion, we had an HIV positive patient whose insurance refused to cover medications while the patient was incarcerated. When it was brought to Litisha's attention that the patient may qualify for a grant from the community, she completed the paperwork needed to get the patient's grant application submitted without hesitation. Again, this not only ensured that the patient would continue to receive the appropriate care while incarcerated, but it also will help once released.
Lastly, Litisha is a true team player. Litisha makes it part of her daily activities to file all her charts and assist whenever needed due to the site being short staffed. Filing may not be one of her job requirements as a Nurse Practitioner, but she does this in order to improve the environment of the health care unit. I have never seen a Nurse Practitioner assist in this manner. Litisha, thank you so much for being who you are and holding such a high standard for the nursing profession.
