I would like to recommend Liz Vincent for the DAISY Award. She is an excellent educator. She is passionate about nursing and education. She engages students through a variety of teaching methods and encourages everyone along the way. This past semester, Liz went above and beyond every lecture to use visual aids, PowerPoint slides, pictures, and engaging stories to relate theory to practice. N102 is based on teaching fundamentals of nursing practice. Liz challenges students to go above and beyond with every patient, every time. She made nursing real. She made patients real, reminding students to be mindful that every patient deserves dignity and respect. She removed the intimidation factor of trying something new and brought laughter into the classroom which provided for a safe learning environment. She was always available outside of class for discussion and questions. She taught us how to LOOK as nurses, to assess the whole patient, be aware of our surroundings and not to settle for status quo patient care. She challenged us to be better personally and professionally. By team-teaching this course, she modeled effective teamwork necessary for successful nursing care. She taught us that mistakes would happen and to own them, learn from them and then to move on. She taught us that the role of a nurse is the patient advocate and not to be afraid to fight for what is right. Specifically, she gave me a foundation to practice nursing both theoretically and practically. She will be embedded in my mind from this point forward calling nursing to a higher level of care, calling me to be a better nurse. These words seem void to express the true depth of all that I have learned from Liz. I am thankful that she has crossed my path and helped me develop as a nurse. My patients will probably not meet Liz, but they too will owe her gratitude for her passionate nursing care and excellent teaching methods.
