Lois Darnell has been an LPN at JCMH for 23 years (since 1991) and has been our Wound Care Nurse since 1999. Lois is frequently complimented by patients and their families and has been nominated for the DAISY Award for her specialized knowledge and treatment of patients as well as her caring communication. She has been also recognized on patient surveys for her care.

She is daily assessing and treating our inpatients assuring that there is adequate prevention and treatment; she also sees patients on SDS for dressing changes and wound care and assists physical therapy with recommendations for treatment. She teaches patients, families, students and staff how to care for skin and wounds utilizing the best products and technology. The physicians utilize her as a resource and consult on simple and complex wounds.

The CNO and Nurse Managers appreciate her actions and leadership in meeting our national nursing goals for ensuring we have no hospital acquired pressure ulcers in several years of measurement. Lois has passion for her work and it shows in her care and treatment of patients. She loves talking and teaching about wound care and can't understand why people are so repulsed by her wound care pictures.

The patient who nominated Lois had this to say: "This is long overdue and I apologize for that! I have told you in person how much I appreciate your help, but I wanted to put it in writing. You stood by me through a long, difficult time with the wound on my leg and you were always optimistic, encouraging and helpful.
