This nomination goes to a remarkable group that has consistently gone the extra mile in their call of duty as Nurses. They started off as a group of strangers in a new work environment and soon developed a bond so strong and so resilient that they overcame all challenges to provide the best care to their patients. They have cared for patients with a wide range of requirements from adults to children, requiring ventilation, hemodialysis, complex wound care, patients at their end-of-life, and at the same time caring for the most active post-acute rehab patients. They did not have any formal education or training in Rehab Nursing, yet they stopped at nothing to develop Rehab Nursing at Provita.

From the moment patients arrive, they create a supportive and nurturing environment that fosters hope and encourages progress. This team once cared for a patient who was put on DNR at the discharging hospital. This patient went home walking. Like him, there were many more who came in with severe disabilities and went home and continued working and living their best lives and were repatriated to their home country. And who would have thought that getting a patient to use underwear instead of a diaper is like winning the lottery? To them, it was indeed the lottery.

They helped Provita’s Education Team develop a Rehab Nursing workshop, some of them went on to obtain formal certification on Rehab Nursing and now co-teach Rehab Nursing courses to all Provita’s nurses, doctors, and caregivers. Their journey is truly a testament that with resilience, change can become an opportunity, and learning can become a superpower. They are an inspiration to us all…reminding us that with the right mindset, we can achieve extraordinary things.
