From the moment I began coming to the Chicago Proton Center until the day I graduated from treatment, Lorena has always gone above and beyond for me and my wife. We had many questions throughout this process and made quite a few phone calls to Lorena, who was very patient in answering our questions and always told us to please call her if we had any more questions.
Lorena always made herself available to answer all of our questions and is extremely knowledgeable. In the rare times that we had a question that she needed to consult with Dr. G about, she always got back to us right away with an answer. Another way that Lorena went above and beyond is she also made sure that my bloodwork was sent to my doctors' offices back home.
Whatever illness brings you to a facility like the Chicago Proton Center, there is almost always stress, fear and anxiety that comes along with it and it takes a very special person to work at those facilities. Lorena is definitely that special person. She had the amazing capability of calming my fears and anxiousness, helping me through stressful moments, and has a great sense of humor that always made me laugh. She was very patient, kind, and understanding throughout my treatment.
One example of this is my next to last treatment was very difficult and I was very anxious to undergo my last treatment. Lorena came out and talked to me until I felt comfortable with continuing with my last treatment and she made sure the staff would accommodate me if I needed a break in the treatment session.
Lorena's kindness and her compassion are certainly genuine, and her way of using humor at appropriate times to take the stress away from the appointment always made me feel like I was not just a patient to her. I always felt like her concern over my health and how I was feeling was never her just "doing her job", but that she really cared how I was doing. I have had many nurses throughout my life that have given me excellent care, but Lorena shines above them all and is very deserving of this recognition.
