Lorena is the reason that my son was not born by unplanned C-section. She came into my room after I had been laboring for around 30 hours and began using the spinning baby technique on me to get my son to move down the birth canal. Because of her, I was able to give birth vaginally. Even though it took a long time, and the midwife openly expressed her doubt that I would be able to push my son out, Lorena made sure that I was given the opportunity to at least try. She was in the room with me the whole time, from the start of her shift until my son was born. Another nurse came to relieve her for her break and she said to come back in a half an hour when the baby had been born. It took 45 more minutes, but Lorena was there the whole time. I am so thankful that she was my nurse, and if I were to give birth again, I would hope to be able to have her in the room helping. She made all the difference in my experience, and again I do not believe that I would have been able to give birth vaginally without her. I cannot fully capture how much her help and support meant to me in that moment. I hope that every woman giving birth gets the opportunity to work with someone like Lorena. She really made a difference.
