Loretta Hellstrom, RN is an engaged nurse and a member of the Adventist Hinsdale Hospital Professional Nurse Practice Council from the beginning of its formation. At each meeting she attended, Loretta was determined to gain knowledge that she would share at her own unit’s meetings. At the beginning of January, Loretta came to the PNP leadership to propose a new concept that she had researched. In caring for her patients, Loretta recognized their lack of information on palliative care. Loretta did her research! After exploring numerous palliative educational programs Loretta invited stakeholders to a meeting to share her ideas. It was brilliant, very professional and innovative. Today Loretta has joined skills with others in working in a palliative care team. Together they are aligning outpatient and inpatient goals and plans to serve our patients better in palliative care!
