Just prior to Christmas, Lora met a very special patient here in the clinic who was pregnant with her 4th child, and they were living in a homeless shelter and had left another state, having been in an abusive relationship there. She came to Michigan to start a new life for her and her children. Lora went above and beyond, first adopting the family for Christmas and rallying support from our clinic, the ultrasound department, and Labor and Delivery. Some of the things Lora accomplished for this family in need were:
-A shopping trip to Walmart: Her family did not have the basic items needed. We were able to purchase soap, shampoo, conditioner, hair products, ponytails holders, wipes for the two-year-old, lavender-scented wash for their baths, powder, lotion, socks, etc.
-Dinner out at Subway: The boys were so excited to not eat at the shelter
-Phone bill for the month of September paid.
-Gently used crib for the baby
-New infant car seat.
-New jacket
-We are working on getting her car fixed. (I am having some issues with the garage)
-Donations of gently used clothes for the 4-year-old
-Donations of baby clothes will be coming soon
-Knitted baby blankets and hat
-Knitted hats for the family
-I have also found her a baby swing, bath, lotion and wash, and lots of baby clothes today.
Lora's support for this family, both material and personal, as well as her gathering others to contribute to this family's needs, is commendable. Thank you, Lora, for making a difference, and for being a great human as well as a great RN!
