There is one nurse that stands out from the 5th floor Pavilion at Hackensack; Lori Dahncke, whom I met during my 2nd treatment of chemotherapy for Stage 4 Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. Since having her that week, I always request and often am assigned to Lori as my nurse.
Lori has incredible empathy for her patients. This empathy is reflected in the great respect she shows for my time, and my desire to minimize the number of hours spent at the hospital. She uses her knowledge and initiative to help me manage my diabetes. She puts her patient's comfort ahead of her own. She is a champion at anticipating the road blocks and then acting to prevent them. She is the consummate professional in an incredibly demanding profession. She is sunshine, brains, and compassion.
Note: This is Lori's second DAISY Award!
