Since I have been a patient at the Carle Hospital Psychiatry Department, Nurse Laurie has continuously been a tremendous help and has gone above and beyond any requirements or expectations to ensure that, as a patient, I am receiving the best care possible. It has been a huge comfort knowing that I can count on her to be not only a patient advocate, but also an advocate on behalf of the doctors at Carle.
As my primary psychiatry provider is no longer at Carle, it has been particularly stressful trying to obtain the necessary scripts for my prescriptions until I can get in to see a new provider. Today, Laurie did an incredible job at conflict resolution when the on-call doctor changed the dosage of my prescription and ordered I have an EKG before it would be refilled. Despite my obvious frustrations, Laurie was able to successfully mediate the issue between the provider and me and create a very reasonable compromise for the situation. I really admire that she was able to do so by being supportive of the views of the doctor and explaining why the doctor made this particular decision and also being considerate in regards to my current situation/needs and taking the time to relay it to the doctor.
Not only did she successfully abate the situation, but she also gave me information on how to register for services that will assist with my medical bills for the necessary testing as I am a recent graduate from the University of Illinois and am currently unemployed without insurance.
I truly believe she is an individual deserving of this award for her extraordinary contribution to the Carle Hospital Health Services!
