Lori was working night shift at triage in the Emergency Department when a patient presented with severe pain and vomiting related to kidney stones. The patient’s wife greatly appreciated Lori’s empathetic response which was to immediately get him into a room and give him pain medication. His wife noted that gratitude when she submitted a DAISY nomination. She shared that Lori kept them informed throughout their ED visit including when a needed CT scan would be delayed because a trauma patient needed to go first. At that point Lori found a bed for the patient’s wife to rest, having learned that his wife would still need to report to her job in the morning.

The nomination described Lori as having great kindness and thoughtfulness. This family felt she went above and beyond to assure their needs were met for their unexpected visit to the Emergency Department.
