Lori showed up in the morning and noticed a patient who had been a complicated discharge the previous day shift. Family and patient were asking to use the restroom. Lori found a translator and found out what happened and why they were still here. The grandmother of the patient said they slept outside on a bench all night and they had not eaten. Lori, prior to her shift starting and not on the clock, took the grandma and child to the cafeteria to eat. Offering reassurance, she talked to the patient’s mother and got to the bottom of the situation. Lori is always a patient advocate and for staff. She jumps into action with no hesitation.
