When walking through the waiting room in the late evening one day in January, Lori Morewitz took a moment to speak with a family member. The family member, a husband, was attempting to process that while he and his wife had seen a fetal heartbeat a few days ago via ultrasound, subsequently, there was no longer a heartbeat and they had lost the baby. The husband had many questions including how would the 8-week fetus look after the procedure, a Dilation and Curettage, and when could he hold his child. Lori was very patient and compassionate in translating the medical situation to him in a way that he could understand as the father was having difficulty reconciling the large image he saw via ultrasound screen with the actual fetal size (approximately a kidney bean), and that the remains may not resemble what was seen on the ultrasound screen. Lori has remained a dedicated resource for the patient and husband as they have reached out several times to obtain information to navigate the healthcare system regarding results and medical records. Each time, Lori provided caring words and compassionately provided information to assist them.
