Her bedside manner, her kindness, her compassion, her patience with all of my questions, and her sense of humor made a world of difference to my mental state going into this procedure.
I was rushed to the ED with a perforated small intestine, blockage, abscesses, and was septic. I was rushed into emergency surgery with about an hour to spare for my life. As a solo mom of a young child, this was a frightening experience for me, and I’m grateful that I pulled through.
Just a day before I was to be released from the hospital it was discovered that I had several new abscesses that require drains. This was a setback that was distressing for me, and I didn’t know what to expect. Lori was assigned as my nurse in interventional radiology, and she was tremendous in terms of making me feel calm and reassuring me that the procedure would not be too uncomfortable and that I would be OK. Her bedside manner, her kindness, her compassion, her patience with all of my questions, and her sense of humor made a world of difference to my mental state going into this procedure. Lori made it clear that my comfort was her utmost priority.
About a week later, I had to return to have another drain placed, and I was so happy to learn that Lori would once again be my nurse for the procedure. She not only remembered me, but she had detailed notes from the previous procedure to ensure that this one would go smoothly as well. Having Lori by my side was such a calming presence for me, and PVH should be proud to have her on staff.
