My husband was admitted to 4 North from the ER. Lori Tetreault was one of his nurses. She was very upbeat, personable, and accommodating including securing him a recliner and helping me get my iPad working.
We were very anxious because my husband had never exhibited heart problems, labored breathing, etc. She was very reassuring and calm, letting us know he was in good hands.
He went for an echo and I spoke to her about it and she explained why he was having it done. When the cardiologist came into the room to give us results, I noticed Lori followed him in and discreetly stood in the background. He delivered devastating news suggesting hospice care. I know that is why she was present. When he left, she hugged me and said her father suffered a similar thing. She helped me contact hospice to set up an appointment for an evaluation. In addition, she constantly checked on us and attended to our needs. She was also knowledgeable and helpful during this trying circumstance. She is truly a kind, caring and most importantly a compassionate nurse. I feel blessed she was on duty, answered all of my questions and truly helped us through a very difficult time. Lori is indeed extraordinary!

As the manager, I was asked to go see this patient and family. When I went to round on them and they shared how wonderful all the staff was. After the brief discussion, they went on to say that one particular nurse stood out. After talking with the patient and family I knew I needed to add more to the story.
The patient and family were faced with an extremely difficult situation of having to decide to go with hospice care. With tears in all of their eyes (patient, wife, and daughter), they told me how this difficult situation was made slightly easier because of Lori. She talked them through the different phases of care. She gave personal experiences with her own family, to help build their trust with hospice. She cried with them and prayed with them. All three of these people stated their experience would have been different had they not had the pleasure of having Lori take care of them. They indicated that she truly knew what holistic nursing was.
