Lori took it upon herself to escort this patient in a wheelchair for three blocks to her new infusion center.
This nurse is the epitome of what it means to put the patient first! Lori works at the JHN Infusion Center, which has currently been transitioning patients over to our new Honickman Center for treatment. It has been a challenging process. One day, a patient arrived at the JHN infusion for treatment and was unaware that her appointment had been moved to the Honickman Center. The patient didn’t think she could make it to the new building three blocks away with her assistive device. Lori took it upon herself to escort this patient in a wheelchair for three blocks to her new infusion center. Lori even helped the patient to the unit and assisted her with the check-in process. The patient was extremely appreciative and felt much more comfortable having Lori by her side. The following day, Lori showed another example of “putting the patient first.” Lori was called by the CT unit to assist the nurse with accessing a patient’s port. This particular patient had multiple appointments that day and needed IV access for each. To avoid having the patient get stuck multiple times for various appointments, Lori escorted this patient from the CT scan with her port accessed to her echocardiogram appointment two blocks away. She then told the patient to have the echocardiogram nurse call her at JHN so that Lori would come back over to deaccess her. Lori is the epitome of what it means to “put the patient first.” She deserves this DAISY more than anyone I know!!
