August 2024 Honoree
Lorraine Herrick, RN, BSN, MSN
I'm submitting this letter hoping you will recognize what a valuable asset you have in Lorraine Herrick. I first encountered Lorraine in the recovery area where my mother was recovering from a cardiac angiogram. The procedure was performed to assess her eligibility for a TAVR. At 95 years of age, we were aware of my mother's severe aortic stenosis. However, her condition had deteriorated to near critical. Lorraine walked us through her choices and then walked us through the following steps with knowledge and compassion. My mother was admitted to get her in the best possible physical condition before the procedure. Lorraine and the doctor monitored her progress, checking in on her frequently. Lorraine expertly coordinated all the tests and consults needed in a timely manner, keeping us informed along the way. My mother's TAVR was performed, and Lorraine was present that day along with the doctor to inform us of her successful procedure and rapid, uncomplicated recovery. Lorraine didn't just do her "job." She went above and beyond what was expected of her. Her confidence, knowledge, and professionalism helped make a potentially terrifying situation tolerable. Her bedside manner is second to none. As a retired nurse, I am well aware that in terrible times of inflation and rising health costs, it is difficult to maintain a support staff in ancillary departments. As St. John's Regional Medical Center leads the way in California as one of the best in all aspects of cardiac care, it is valuable employees like Lorraine who make all of that possible. She deserves to be recognized for her integrity, compassion, dedication, and knowledge. Thank you, Lorraine! We will never forget you.
Thank you, Lorraine, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
