It is with gratitude and honor that I recommend Lorraine for the Lee Health Daisy Award. My father and I were in Cape Coral for a Dad and Daughter visit. My Dad has resided in Cape Coral for twenty years. Last summer, he was diagnosed with advanced bladder cancer. On the advice of his Doctors he came to my home in Maryland for treatment at Johns Hopkins Hospital. After a brief remission, he was to begin his next phase of treatment as soon as we returned from Florida. The trip did not go as planned, and he was in the Cape Coral Hospital for eight days. His diagnosis was very serious, with a blood and urinary tract infection. Also, his CT scan revealed a new carcinoma of the peritoneal. There were many medical professionals involved with my Dad's recovery. They all bear noting for their professionalism, care, and concern. Lorraine introduced herself as soon as Dad got to his room. She was the epitome of taking many threads and weaving them into a plan. Her skill set of listening to my questions, with an intent that was palpable, let me know she had our back. That reflection of her character alone set her apart from her peers! She stayed abreast of the treatment plan as it evolved. Ultimately, the plan included surgery and IV antibiotics after discharge in Florida and Maryland. It also included consultation with Hope Hospice. Lorraine contacted all the continuance of care providers in Maryland. Her above and beyond initiative made the Maryland transition seamless. I cannot stress enough how her care set the tone for what ultimately became Dad's final experience with treatment. It was a good one, thanks to Miss Lorraine. He is now in Hospice home care here in Frederick Maryland. My hope is that Lorraine receives the "Daisy" award and knows how much she is valued by all the families who are blessed by her commitment!
