I have worked with Lou for several years. I have seen her give much needed emotional support to our APU patients and staff. She will take time to show APU patients how to knit blankets for their much awaited babies. It gives them a way to help pass their long weeks on APU. But 2 months ago she went above and beyond.
We had a patient flown in from Brownsville. The patient said she came with only the gown she had on. She was diagnosed with an Acreta and was given the worst case scenario by HPA. Her family was unable to visit due to financial difficulties. Many of our APU nurses became this patient's family. The family was unable to come in for the surgery. I can only imagine the patient's fear.
Lou came in on her day off to go into surgery with the patient. She prayed with the patient and Dr. H prior to the surgery. Dr. H gives credit to Lou for helping with the positive outcome.
