When I received my cancer diagnosis, it was devastating and it was here at work. While this is the most inopportune time to receive such news, it turned out to be exactly where I needed to be. How could I have dealt with this news by myself, or at home with a mother that I'm a caregiver for who will probably not take this kind of news well? Thank the Lord for my colleague, LouAnn, who wrapped me up and comforted me, grounding me with faith to emotionally understand what in the world just happened. It's amazing how the brain shuts down during emotionally stressful times and amazing that the Lord knows exactly where to place His angels to clear the haze of shock and indecision. LouAnn took control of calling my husband and even greeting him later when he arrived at SRMH. I was so upset and so confused that I don't think I could have structured a sentence, let alone remember to call my husband and tell him, "Hey Honey, I have cancer." What LouAnn probably didn't realize is that she saved my day that day and let my husband know the news that he just wasn't prepared for in the gentlest way. I will never forget and will be forever thankful for LouAnn's kindness, help, and grace!

We had the most extraordinary nurse. From start to finish, she was a Godsend! LouAnn was so pleasant and most personable! She was very attentive and her care was exemplary. She made us feel that we had her undivided attention. She answered questions and responded to concerns with compassion and empathy. Concentrating on her patient, she dotted her Is and crossed every T. In a world torn by so much change it's highly unusual to witness and recognize such an impeccable bedside manner. SRMH is quite fortunate indeed to have such a selfless human being on board. As I leave this hospital today, my positive experience with LouAnn will never be forgotten.
