Winter, 2021 - My father was losing his battle with Covid-pneumonia. I chose to stay by his side until the end. Louie went out of his way to care for my father and me. Soon after his shift started, he came in and changed my father's bedding, made sure he was comfortable with pillows, washed his face with a warm cloth and swabbed his mouth out with cool water. He explained to me what was happening with my father, and the medication that was available to allow my father more comfort. Knowing I had been at the hospital for a while and without asking, Louie brought me blankets, coffee, water and a sandwich. Louie had so much compassion for us as human beings. He went beyond what any other nurse has done not just with his actions but also with his words.
