Louis has been a wonderful gift to our family. My mother has been in the hospital for 3 long weeks starting with the ICU Unit then being moved to the W - 4 Unit. She has had a variety of nurses and when we met Louis he was exceptional in the fact that he was not only caring but would also explain everything that was happening with my mom such as why she was feeling the way she was, what was happening with her body plus why they were giving her the medications and how they would help her. He would not only speak with us but speak to my mom so she was always included in the conversation.
My mom is diabetic which led to one foot being very swollen and would hurt to the touch so she could not move it easily. Louis would take the time to gently move her to help her get comfortable which I know may be a small thing to some but for us to see this kind of care for a loved one was great. We knew when we had to leave for the evening, she was in great hands and we didn't have to worry. If Louis was not our nurse for the evening he would stop in to check how she was feeling. Another important item, she was unable to get up to use the restroom and he would just tell her to do what she needed to do and not to worry they will take care of her and they always most certainly did. If I could give Louis the "DAISY Award" myself I would because he is very deserving of it. I must reiterate what a great nurse you have with Louis Tafoya. We have been fortunate to have him help my mom at a time which was very difficult for us all. Thank you Louis!

My mother has been hospitalized at UNMH for approximately twenty-two (22) days. She is currently in the 4 West Pulmonary Unit. During this time, many nurses and other staff have cared for her. Louis Tafoya has been an exceptional nurse. We highly commend his professionalism, compassion, and his people and personal communication skills. We are appreciative of the outstanding manner in which he has handled my mother's care. He has demonstrated his dependability in responding to our requests and questions. He follows through with his commitments to completion when many other staff members do not. Louis is able to find solutions to the various problems that arise with hospitalization with concern and efficiency. Those of us who struggle with loved ones being hospitalized for long periods of time recognize and appreciate what a blessing employees such as Louis truly are. We also recognize his nursing skills as he tends to his patients with caring and a heart for service.
Our family is grateful to Louis for his hard work and dedication, for all he has done to make my mother's hospitalization more comforting.
