It was my pleasure to have Lu as my nurse for 2 days of my surgical course. To say that Lu provided meaningful care is an understatement. She's mastered nursing as an art and science in recognizing my level of fear and pain and supported my emotional and physical needs in a way that made me feel safe and authentically cared for. She fully completed bedside report and asked me to participate. I watched her engage a younger nurse to mentor her in providing patient-centered care. What was most impressive to me was her approach with my children. While I have been a nurse for 32 years, I was sincerely "afraid" of what I was experiencing, and my children knew and took shifts being at my bedside. Lu met all of them and was so kind, engaging them in conversation and assuring them I was okay. All of my visitors commented on her kindness. Thank you, Lou, for your help and very meaningful kindness. You made a difference.
