In my Navy nursing career, LT Kimberly Nguyen has been the finest nurse I have had the privilege to work with. Her passion for compassionate care and reverence for detail-oriented care is beyond any other staff. I have seen her go above and beyond for all her patients. She will spend extra time talking with patients about their concerns and fears, then will advocate for any issues she is able to improve. In one such instance, a patient after a recent orthopedic surgery did not have a ride from the hospital to the gate. Kimberly Nguyen called multiple services to ensure the patient would not have to walk in the rain out of the hospital at the time of discharge. Another time a patient on a clear liquid diet did not have many food options due to their diet restriction. LT Nguyen called the galley and advocated for a change in options to help future patients. With pediatric patients, she spends time explaining all care in detail with parents until they are comfortable with the plan of care. She has brought in puzzles for mental health patients to brighten their day. She volunteers to help any patient, whether in her direct care or not, in anything they require. Teaching and mentoring the corpsmen and new nurses is always a top priority of hers. She ensures all staff is comfortable and knowledgeable on patient care. I have seen her countless times sit down with corpsmen to teach them about medications and patient conditions. She teaches with patience and encouragement that is so important for staff new to patient care. NMRTC Yokosuka and the Multi-Service Unit are so lucky to have LT Nguyen on their staff. Her hard work, dedication, and compassion to both patients and staff are greatly appreciated.
