From the moment I met Lucas as a newly hired nurse to 100 central, I knew we had a very special person. His energy is contagious and commitment to learn and understand his new role was unprecedented! He began asking me questions at nurse orientation, about nurse orientation, about how he could become involved in EBP to explore solutions that would benefit the 100 central population. Lucas has a thirst to learn and to improve the experience of everyone he comes in contact with. He has a virtually limitless desire to understand the meaning of why we do what we do as nurses. Lucas is the poster child of a “Memorial” nurse. Here at Memorial, nurses go above and beyond to see that every patient’s needs are met and Lucas fits that mold perfectly. Lucas is always enthusiastic and hungry for knowledge. He has excellent critical thinking skills and senses change in the patient’s condition long before things go bad. He is extremely talented and gifted. Lucas is compassionate and very caring. He exemplifies all of Memorial’s core values in everything that he does. I consistently get compliments regarding the care that Lucas provides, not only from his patients, but from their family members as well. I always tease him that when I round on a patient that he has come in contact with I basically have to stop them after five straight minutes of going on and on about “Lucas, Lucas, Lucas” to be able to finish asking them the questions that I need answered about the rest of their care. They absolutely Adore him!!!
