It is impossible to truly capture the spirit of LuCinda in words; I believe with all of my heart that she embodies all that the DAISY award symbolizes. LuCinda exemplifies many virtues: kindness, compassion, and a high level of integrity. She takes pride in her work, builds relationships with patients, families, and staff. She far exceeds all expectations and standards of any healthcare professional I have ever encountered. While traveling away from home, my family’s life was turned upside down when my husband and daughter were in a horrible car accident. I toggled back and forth between two rooms and spent many sleepless nights at my husband's side. He was fighting and LuCinda was there beside him but was also beside and with me. She was comforting, and encouraging and even brought a beautiful smile and laugh that can fill a room. She saw my husband for the person he was. She cared for him in a way that brought him dignity and hope in the darkest hours. She was meticulous in making sure he was clean after days of dried blood, gravel, and glass were still on him. She used her voice to calm him when he became agitated from intubation pain and restraints. He began to trust that voice he heard in the night, and so did I. LuCinda brought light in a time of darkness and love to a space of despair and fear. I will never forget LuCinda and everything she did for my husband and me. It is quite obvious the respect and admiration the other nurses, aides, assistants, doctors and others have for her. Everyone loves LuCinda! Thank you, LuCinda! Your work and life matter. You are truly deserving of this award and all good things!
