I was brought into the Nashville VA for surgery and I have to say that the Nursing staff was unquestionably outstanding. I came into 2g following surgery late in the evening. All the nurses worked and completed their duties, there I awoke and saw an older lady, I thought to be a volunteer. But I soon found out that her name was Lucy, and she worked like she was new to her job. She spoke to me like I was the only patient on the floor, she treated me as a priority. When performing her duties, she did not treat me as "just another patient". She had a warming glow about her and she made me feel comfortable in her presence. Her job performance took away any anxiety I had. I felt safe. The second day I woke to find Luck working around the room. She checked on me as well as my roommate. She just wanted to let us know that we were safe and she was there for us. I never felt safer and since being here she continues to do just that making the patient feel safe and secure while going through our own personal battles. I asked around and found out she is a dedicated nurse with 41 years of service to this hospital. What an amazing commitment. Well, all I can say is I wish all nursing could see this kind of dedication. She puts her patients first. She has dedicated her life to serving Veterans of this area. She is still eager and full of energy. We need more Lucy's in our lives and I will hold Lucy in my memories as being a hard worker, compassionate, loving individual, and was an exceptional nurse. Proud to know her.
