Outstanding health is what UnityPoint is all about. We see it everywhere we go. On billboards, in the newspaper, as well as sponsors for so many community events. But until you experience firsthand, you really don't understand what it means.
My sister was brought by ambulance to the UnityPoint Emergency Room. Later that morning, she was admitted to the ICU. I could give you lots of numbers, stats, dates and times, but what really matters is the outstanding care that was given to my sister and our family. On staff that night was a sweet nurse, named Lucy. She worked very hard to address the many issues my sister was admitted with. I have never seen so many monitors and machines in one room. Lucy came and found me in the visitor lounge, she warned me that my sister was hooked up to a lot of machines. She stood next to me as she explained what all the machines were for as well as answered my questions, she put her arm around me and let me know she was available for the family of the patient also. My sister's next of kin was her 25-year-old daughter. Lucy gently let me know I should call her and have her come to the hospital. While I waited for my niece and sisters to arrive, Lucy was busy cleaning the blood from my sister's face and hands, trying to lessen the shock for her daughter. I know she was very busy that day, yet she took the time to hold our hands and make sure we were doing alright. Lucy cared for our sister like she was her own sister.
