I had the opportunity to work with a bunch of amazing nurses on the CVICU floor when I was floated there as a tech. However, Lucy was truly the most amazing nurse. She sets the bar high for future nurses like me. Lucy knew I was in nursing school and took the time, even with getting a heart fresh out of the OR, to ensure that she explained everything and included me in the care as much as possible. I truly learned so much from her in just a few short hours. She even piqued my interest in the CVICU after graduating from my program.

Not only did she take the time to explain things to me, but she took her time with the patient as well. Although he was not very roused when he first came to, she talked to him about what she was doing and why she was doing it in the first place. As he woke, he tried to fight the breathing tube. Lucy took her time to hold his hand and ensure him he needed to relax so we could help to get this breathing tube out. She never once seemed frustrated when he would not listen and try to bite down on the tube, instead she talked to him and calmed him down. She truly was amazing, and I know that all of her patients are lucky to have her.
