On the day that he was transferred to UTSW to donate his organs, his mother and father showed up, and Lumanie treated them with such respect and compassion.
Lumanie was taking care of a very young patient who had overdosed, his mother would come and visit, and it was obvious that she had a substance abuse problem, it was difficult for some nurses to not judge or blame her for her son's condition.
On the day that he was transferred to UTSW to donate his organs, his mother and father showed up, and Lumanie treated them with such respect and compassion. She ensured that they were a part of every step and that they understood everything.
She was the perfect example of what a nurse should be, she never judged them, she had them hold his hands during his walk of honor. It was a very emotional experience and handled so gracefully.
