It's my pleasure to recognize Luz as a bright light in her department. I would go so far as to say that no one wants to be in the hospital, and no one wants to be in the emergency room.  
 
There is such a huge amount of anxiety around the unknown, not knowing what will happen, only knowing that something is wrong. Luz was our nurse for maybe an hour, at the very most, on a terrifying Friday night, but she walked in with such a calm, reassuring smile on her face and a warm greeting. I think it's no surprise that her name means "light" because she was such a comforting presence…we just knew that everything was going to be okay, that we were going to be cared for, and that she was going to do everything in her power to keep us safe.  

It is an understatement to say that she has chosen the right profession. She is a nurse who will hold your hand. She can anticipate your course of treatment. Jean Watson has this quote about nurses: "We are the light in institutional darkness, and [...] we get to return the light of our humanity." I wish her all the best in her career and humbly recognize her for the DAISY Award.
