Luz (Lucy) was soft-spoken but was knowledgeable with the intent to help, to care, to hear you, to provide suggestions or alternatives to provide patient comfort. She was always sincerely compassionate. She provided suggestions and recommendations for us to discuss with the doctor. She had the sweetest, most compassionate demeanor.
Never did she make us feel we were interfering or being overbearing as a patient or caregiver. She used pudding or apple sauce to help “the medicine go down better" when Mom was too tired to take it herself. She always told Mom what medications were being given and what the medicine was in, either pudding or applesauce. Then, she always followed the bitterness with a delicious bite to counter it. She did this on the second day that she cared for us as well because she knew Mom liked it. I was very excited when I saw she was going to be Mom’s nurse again. S
She also gave me great ideas on how to help mom during her upcoming rehab, to help her not feel lost or alone, and how to help her be interactive in that phase of recovery as well.
