We had so much in common it was amazing and on top of that it was her birthday as well and she randomly picked up a shift in hopes she’d get to deliver a baby.
I was admitted into labor & delivery a few days before my due date to be induced due to bleeding & low heart rate for my baby. Although induction was not the route I wanted to go, I stuck through nearly 15 hours of both pitocin & folly balloon method without pain intervention- per my birth plan as I strictly did not want any pain medicine during my delivery. At midnight, I was in so much pain and excessively bleeding and couldn’t handle much more. My night nurse came in and the atmosphere for me changed and I felt like I was in the best hands possible. Although my nurse’s shift ended before my delivery, she set me up to feel so confident and prepared for labor. As she was leaving, she excitedly told us that Luz (Luzmaria) would take over for her. As soon as Luz came in as if the stars didn’t align enough before- they really did now. We had so much in common it was amazing and on top of that it was her birthday as well and she randomly picked up a shift in hopes she’d get to deliver a baby. We listened to great music and bonded over all of our common interests and locations, and she told me that my baby would be delivered by 10:30 am. Lo and behold- I started pushing at around 9 am and my first child, my son, was delivered at 10:32 am. I honestly never thought active labor could go so smoothly and be as fun as it was, and I give all the credit to the two nurses who helped me get through everything. Now I have a happy, healthy baby boy who is just over 48 hours old and I can’t stop thinking about the wonderful experience I had with my nurses. Although I’m not thinking of having another child for a little while - I would absolutely love to see them again in a delivery room one day!
