Lydia has not only demonstrated a meaningful difference in one patient's care she has been recognized as being one of the key nurses involved in the care of multiple patients within the Emergency Department. She has identified more than a dozen positive sepsis screens (either at the time of triage or during the patients' stay in the ED) on patients and entered the initial Sepsis Protocol order set. Her diligence to initiate these orders helps to quickly identify if/when these patients meet severe sepsis criteria, which allows staff the ability to intervene earlier to provide the best care for these critical patients, thus increasing their chances of surviving this potentially lethal disease. She has taken every available opportunity to increase her knowledge about sepsis and is always ready to share her knowledge with other team members and empowers others to take the initiative as well. She has created a great example for others to follow.
