I delivered my first baby here at the end of April. Due to some complications, my son needed to spend the night in the newborn nursery with an IV. Lydia was the nurse in the nursery that night. She was so compassionate and willing to teach my husband and me how to take care of our brand-new baby. I felt so safe; in fact, I was totally comfortable going back to my room to get a few hours of much-needed sleep, leaving my son in Lydia's very capable hands. During the night, Lydia demonstrated exceptional clinical skill and noticed something wasn't quite right with my son. She advocated for orders for some testing from the pediatrician on call. The testing was inconclusive, and the decision was made to transfer him to a NICU at another Beaumont Hospital. Lydia personally called me in my room to explain everything that was happening and made sure that my husband and I could get to the nursery to hold our son before the transfer team came to pick him up. She answered all our questions and kept us calm during a very scary time. She is a shining example of compassionate, extraordinary care, and deserves to be recognized!
