I entered the hospital due to an initial hip replacement that became infected. The hip was replaced, and I spent the next several days in the hospital recuperating.
During my stay at Central Dupage Hospital, Lydia Piceno was my day nurse and the coordinator of all my activities. I quickly discovered Lydia was a friendly outgoing person who was always cheerful and positive. I felt that somehow, we "clicked." Lydia had a way of putting me at ease. From my perspective, her nursing skills are exemplary whether she's administering medications, setting up IV medications, preparing for blood transfusion, or just checking to be sure I'd eaten lunch or dinner. In fact, the entire nursing staff, the techs, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and doctors exhibit the highest levels of expertise and kindness which makes Northwestern Medicine Central Dupage Hospital the fine hospital it is.
In addition to her excellent nursing skills, Lydia's organization and coordination skills are extraordinary. She always knew who was coming next and coordinated the parade of people who needed to work with me so that both they and I got the most from each visit. In addition, I often saw her slip into the room to listen to the various conversations so that she would always know what was expected and could keep my recovery on track. She found ways to schedule everything and everyone so that even pain medications were working when it was time for physical therapy! Lydia was my nurse and advocate.
Lydia's kindness, good nature and compassion were always foremost as she went out of her way to put me at ease over upcoming tests and activities, answered all my questions about medications, test results, blood transfusions, IVs, and other necessary medical activities.
While all the nurses, techs and other personnel were excellent, for me it was all about Lydia.
I hope you will recognize Lydia Piceno for the marvelous asset she is and the expert care and good will she brings to Northwestern Medicine Central Dupage Hospital. It's nurse like Lydia Piceno who make the hospital a great place for care.
