Lydie always entered the room with a smile and expressed genuine care. She also popped in to say hello and goodbye as if we were her family.
My husband was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, and we could not get the severe pain that comes with this cancer under control, so he was admitted to the hospital. He was here for 4 ½ days and I learned a lot by observing and listening to all the people charged with his care. Lydie truly stood out as an EXCEPTION in the world of patient care today. Below are a few things that were important to us during his stay.
My husband needs to take his Creon immediately with each meal for it to be effective. Lydie made sure his Creon was available when his meals arrived. This little attention to detail ensured my husband was able to eat when his food came, and this relieved my stress. I know it was extra work for her, but to us it meant a lot.
Even when Lydie was in our room, she always had an ear to the door in case of a patient emergency in another room. I liked seeing that as it meant out of sight out of mind is not going to happen on her watch.
She provided detailed information to the next nurse. You may consider this part of the job, but I need to stress that Lydie didn’t check her time, she checked her patient’s wellbeing in all facets of their care ALWAYS before she left.

She truly provided the peace of mind I needed to know my husband was well taken care.
One final and significant suggestion she gave me was to consider wearing gloves when changing my husband’s fentanyl patches at home. No one else had shared that with me. If not for her, I would not have known how to protect myself. She was providing education for my safety even though I was not the patient.
Lydie is truly a gem and although I hope our paths never cross again, I will never forget her and the care she provided my husband and ultimately me. She has an infectious smile, exudes optimism, excels in her communication skills, and is very compassionate.
