She stood by my side and firmly advocated for my voice in the conversations. I went into the procedure feeling heard, prepared, and very cared for.
Last week, I had a total hysterectomy - my first time having surgery or being medically engaged at all. I had never even had stitches before! To say I was nervous and unsure of what to expect is an understatement. I tend to react strongly to medications and was resolute that I did not want to be on opioids after the procedure and worried about communicating my wishes to the staff. Enter Lynn, my pre-op angel, who not only showed me tender kindness in the face of my nervousness but also gave me the great service of actually listening to me about my concerns with medications. She carefully explained each and every step of the pre-op process and when the surgeon and anesthesiologist came into the room, she stood by my side and firmly advocated for my voice in the conversations. I went into the procedure feeling heard, prepared, and very cared for. Lynn was the first person I saw when I woke up. She squeezed my hand, told me I had done well, and continued to explain everything else I could expect before going home. She was a complete godsend for me. I would like to nominate her for this recognition as an Extraordinary Nurse who truly cares for and advocates for the patients in her care.
