The patient ate, showered, and even had her hair in braids. The patient's family came and were over the moon when they saw their daughter showered and in a new outfit.
Lyndin Sy is truly the definition of a DAISY Nurse. Lyndin stands out with her compassion, positive attitude, teamwork, communication and especially patient care.
Lyndin typically works on the mixed geriatric/adult unit and there was a time when there was a patient with severe catatonia. This patient came frequently, but this was probably one of the more severe episodes. The patient was barely speaking, not showering, not eating and simply not doing any of her basic ADLs. If not prompted, this patient would simply lay in her bed awake and not participate in anything. I was working with Lyndin that day and it was a hectic day. There were multiple planned discharges, med passes, and treatment teams. Although she was busy, Lyndin still took her time with her patient. Even when the patient resisted many times, Lyndin skillfully encouraged and prompted the patient throughout the day. Lyndin was able to convince the patient to get into the shower, and Lyndin helped make sure that the patient was fresh and clean. Lyndin took the time to do the patient's hair and even helped her set up her food tray. The patient ate, showered, and even had her hair in braids. The patient's family came and were over the moon when they saw their daughter showered and in a new outfit. Over time, with the help of the team, the patient did get better and eventually got released.
Lyndin treats all her patients like this. She treats the patients as if one of her own family. She wants the best for all her patients and will advocate for them to the best of her capacity. When Lyndin is a charge nurse, she makes sure all the assignments are fair and frequently checks with the nurses to make sure they're okay. Lyndin will help you with absolutely anything and everything; med passes, EKGs, blood draws, redirection, meals, groups, showers; you name it. She is someone that you can go to if you have questions about your patient, charting and all things psych nursing. The BMC is truly blessed because of Lyndin. She truly touches the lives of everyone she interacts with.
