I was brought to the ER by ambulance because of a drug overdose. Everybody did a good job, but Lyndsey seemed to stand out because she made me feel like she had a genuine concern. Everything she did, from getting me water to hooking me up with the social worker so I could get into a drug program (and that she was partially responsible for) she did with such a caring attitude that is hard for me to put into words, but I will say it is something rarely seen these days.
I am 60 years old and have been doing drugs for about 30 years. I never before tried to get help. So, to me, this is a very big deal. Lyndsey inspired me to reach out for help, so I feel like my life has been saved twice today. One time when they got me off the ground in the subway and did what was needed to bring me back and a second time when I reached out for help. This was the second time I OD'ed and by the grace of God, I pulled through.
Anyway, there's a lot more I could say but I won't hold you hostage any longer. I will close by saying Lyndsey made me feel like I had a friend in my corner that cared. I talked to the social worker and tomorrow morning I am going into a program.
If I continue on drugs, I will die from them. That's not going to happen because a nurse/friend pointed me in a new direction that will possibly save my life. If that is not an extraordinary thing, I don't know what is. She will get my heartfelt gratitude and a place in my prayers.
