Lynn Bonitz personifies the Daisy Award. She has been the only nurse coordinator for the CF Center for 30 years providing patients and families with kind, caring, and compassionate care especially through the emotionally difficult time of diagnosis. Her calm demeanor and way with words provide reassurance to families throughout the challenges of CF. She goes out of her way to provide top-notch care to each and every patient she serves. During the pandemic, we had many new CF babies referred from the state screening. Close weight monitoring is of utmost importance and Lynn drove to some homes to deliver infant scales. She willingly provides gentle guidance and education to families empowering them to care for their children whether in person, on the phone, or through her work email. This was especially important during the surge of COVID-19.
Lynn serves as a role model and preceptor to both Northwell nurses and new CF nurses across the country. She moderates a highly respected nursing session at the annual CF meeting which is well attended and received. She is patient and always willing to share her knowledge and expertise with others.
In the 22 years that I have worked with Lynn side by side, I believe she is the best, hands down. Lynn is the foundation of the center and embodies all that an Extraordinary Nurse should be.
