Lynn is the notorious policy resource on our unit, and we often say “If you don’t know, ask Lynn,” because she either will always have an answer based on facts or practice or will help you find the answer.
Lynn Myjak encompasses all of what it means to be a nurse. This floor is primarily dedicated to pediatric hematology, oncology, and stem cell transplant. The unit boasts a high acuity of complex pediatric cancers and blood disorders and presents unique nursing skills needed to care for these tiny fighters and their families adequately yet lovingly. Lynn has shown the utmost compassion by “mothering” a child who is receiving medical care alone or with reduced support because of COVID restrictions, sitting with them, singing, playing games, and tucking them into bed. She is a night shift nurse, so she goes above and beyond to ensure there are no monsters under their beds and always leaves on a nightlight.

Lynn has talked to many a mother/father/family through a new diagnosis of cancer for their ill child. A task only she could do with as much grace, knowledge, and gentleness that the family is so reassured that in their darkest moments, Lynn has their back and will fight for their child right along with the family. Not only is her compassion and dedication to patient-centered care a priority in her practice, but knowledgeable, policy, and evidence-based practice is as well. Lynn is the notorious policy resource on our unit, and we often say “If you don’t know, ask Lynn,” because she either will always have an answer based on facts or practice or will help you find the answer.

Lynn also performs at the highest competency and never backs down when it comes to a child requiring higher acuity of care and recognizes the deterioration of our patients and provides life-saving, life-sustaining care when needed. Her ability to go from a nurse checking for the boogie man to ensuring a child sees another birthday is truly awe-inspiring. She is truly a blessing to nursing practice not only to her patients and families lucky to have her as their nurse but also to all of us who are afforded the absolute joy and skill it takes to walk and work alongside her. She makes everyone she knows a better nurse, better caregiver, and all-around better person. I know her preparation for retirement deserves such an honored career of over 30 years as a professional nurse. Thank you!
