My mother had a CT scan scheduled and was worried about her test. She has osteoporosis and has a very hard time laying on anything flat and hard for very long. With those worries on her mind, she had forgotten to take 1 or 2 doses of her blood pressure medicine. The radiologist said that after her test, before her blood work, she would take her to the Nurses Holding Room and have her blood pressure checked.
The radiologist came and got me quickly after the scan, stating my mom's blood pressure was very high. Lynn was working in the Nurses Holding Room that day and had taken her initial blood pressure. When I came in, Lynn said she needed to tell me that in her professional opinion, my mom needed to go straight to the ER. My mom had her blood pressure medicine with her and wanted to take a pill and thought her blood pressure would come down soon. My mom did take her pill and stayed in that room for about 20 minutes. Lynn took her blood pressure again and it was down to 197. She said that was better and it seemed to be going in the right direction. She got a wheelchair and took us to the lab for my mom's blood draw. In the meantime, my mom started shaking and saying she was very cold. Lynn went and got her a warm blanket to try and help. She said she would come back to the lab with the blood pressure machine and check my mom's blood pressure again before we left, to verify it was still going down. After her blood draw, Lynn came back again and her blood pressure was heading back up. Lynn again stated she should go to the ER and my mom agreed, as by this time she was having trouble breathing and feeling numb. Lynn called ER from the lab stating my mom would be there shortly, explaining the circumstances, trying to get her the prompt attention that my mom needed. Again, Lynn went out of her way, taking us to the ER to get us there quicker and to get the attention my mom needed promptly.
I truly believe that Lynn went totally above and beyond with her care and compassion for my mom that day.
