December 2024 Honoree
Ma Estela Mendoza, BSN, RN, CEN
My 21-year-old son came in following a car accident. Maria was our night nurse for the first three nights. I was here for the first and third nights. My husband was here the second night. My first impression of Maria was watching her care for my son and training a new graduate nurse. Maria was super professional with her trainee, teaching her, showing “pro-tips,” and explaining why they do things. She was so impressive! When I saw her without her trainee, she was amazing, too.
Even though my son was fully sedated, Maria told him everything she was doing before she did it. She was so respectful to him and me. She checked on me many times. She answered all my questions honestly. In addition, her attention to detail and knowledge of her job and all the machines was abundantly clear. When my son was awake, he was extremely chatty! She handled his questions, jokes, complaints, and constant begging for water perfectly! She treated him with professionalism and genuine respect, even when he was being difficult. I would absolutely want her to care for me or any of my family.

Thank you, Ma Estela, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
