Mabel was caring for a patient she remembered from a previous delivery several years ago. During that earlier encounter, the patient had delivered a term baby at home at a very young age. At the time, she hadn’t known she was pregnant and was living in an unstable home environment, with concerns of physical and verbal abuse from her mother. Sadly, the baby passed away shortly after delivery, and Mabel was involved in the patient’s care during that time.

When the patient arrived this past weekend, Mabel recognized her name and immediately recalled the history surrounding the previous delivery. She took the time to sit at the bedside and give the patient space to talk about her past experience if she wished to do so. Mabel quickly realized that the patient was still suffering from unresolved trauma related to the loss of her baby. During their conversation, the patient shared that she had never known where her baby was buried and had never been able to visit the grave.

Mabel knew exactly how to support her. She reached out to a colleague who oversees bereavement at The Birth Center, and together they coordinated with Decedent Affairs to locate the burial site. Because of Mabel’s compassionate care and her deep commitment to meeting her patients’ emotional and physical needs, this mother is now able to find closure and visit her baby’s resting place.

This is just one example of the many ways Mabel goes above and beyond to provide exceptional, compassionate care to her patients. She consistently demonstrates empathy, initiative, and genuine dedication in everything she does.
