I was in my room when Nurse Maci entered my room with the intention to remove my mediport needle. I was standing in the bathroom and began to talk, but not making any sense. At this point, things became very foggy. Maci knew something was off with me; I was beginning to swell and my heart rate jumped up to more than 140. She quickly retrieved my rescue injection and gave it to me. I normally give my own shot, but she could tell I wouldn’t be able to. She went above and beyond to comfort me, calm me down, and help me understand what just took place. Maci continued to stay with me and reassure me until my flare-up resolved and could fully understand what happened. Being able to rapidly assess my situation and take immediate action saved my life. Her caring nature is something I hope she never loses and is also recognized for going above and beyond.
