Mackenzie Shakal was the overnight nurse. My other parent and I stayed overnight both nights because we knew that my parent's life was coming to a close. Mackenzie located a cot, provided us with warm blankets, and took exceptional care of my parent. Her compassion, empathy, expert care, and overall demeanor made this horrendous process a bit easier. My parent went to the Emergency Room in Eau Claire and was transitioned to the third-floor Medical/Surgical unit. My parent had been undergoing treatment for lung cancer for almost two years. However, at this point, my parent contracted pneumonia and rhinovirus. 

All of the nurses on the third floor were amazing. However, one nurse stands out. We were so glad that my parent had such a caring nurse at the end. Mackenzie was quiet at night, going about her duties, while also ensuring we were well taken care of. She is one of the nicest people that I have ever met. Mackenzie Shakal has chosen the right profession for herself. I can't imagine another nurse taking care of my parent during those last two nights. I want her to know that what she made a tremendous difference, and we will never forget her care.
