I have never seen a nurse build so much rapport in such a short time.
This summer the peds ER saw a pretty traumatic code situation. When the call came in, Mack was quick to jump into action. She ensured that roles were assigned, interdisciplinary team members were notified and ensured that both of the orienting nurses had places to stand to observe. Once the patient came in, it became a blur of organized chaos with Mack at the forefront. She was incredible to watch. Unfortunately, our patient was lost. Mack made an effort to ensure that the parents had the opportunity to hold their child and made sure that the family had the ability to have some semblance of privacy to mourn. I have never seen a nurse build so much rapport in such a short time.

What really set her apart was despite the fact that she was also processing and reflecting on her own emotions and experience with the code, she made sure that every individual person involved had the ability to talk and grieve. She checked in with everyone. Mack ensured that the family and the team were taken care of, even though that wasn't her responsibility. At the end of the shift, Mack made sure that all team members, even non-nursing team members, were invited to our debrief - which was really cool to see.

Mack is such an incredible team player and goes out of her way every single shift to make sure her team is taken care of physically, emotionally, and mentally. She is one of the most caring nurses that I've had the pleasure to work with in the four years I've been in healthcare.
